Commercial Fire and Water Damage in Grand Haven, MI

This manufacturing building suffered fire damage from a vehicle fire.

Typically fire is the last thing on a business owner's mind, but fire in commercial spaces are more prevalent than many realize. Make sure you are up on commercial building fire safety with these tips:

• Fire Alarms - they are your first line of defense against the potential risks of fires and a critical part of a commercial building fire safety system. Make sure to have them inspected and maintained at least annually to keep them in proper working order. Regular tests of the fire alarm system with the fire drills should be conducted regularly to ensure employees are knowledgeable of fire safety and evacuation procedures. 
• Emergency Lights and Exit Signs - chaos and confusion can happen during a fire especially when electrical power is lost. Emergency lights and lighted exit signs make it easier for employees to navigate quickly out of the building to a safe location. They are designed to come on when the main power supply is lost. These signs and lights should be tested monthly to make sure that they are still working properly in case of emergency. 
• Fire Extinguishers - they provide a means for employees to put out small fires or stop the spread of a larger fire long enough to evacuate the building. Fire extinguishers should be mounted on walls every 75 feet and near exits for easy access. Make sure your employees know how to operate a fire extinguisher and that they are maintained and inspected regularly. 
• Invest in a Fire Sprinkler/Standpipe System - these systems react to heat and turn on a water sprinkler to suppress or extinguish larger fires. Maintenance and inspections should be serviced through a licensed inspector. 

This photo is the aftermath of a vehicle fire in the garage of a manufacturing company in Grand Haven. The fire was put out with water and foam affecting multiple areas of the building. Before our crew could start on the fire restoration they needed to tackle the water damage portion, extracting standing water, and then placing dehumidifiers and air movers to help with the dry out. Once the water was taken care of our crew could move onto the fire restoration. They used hepa vacuums on the walls and ceilings and wiped down pipes and beams.
